Learning Locally, Applying Globally: Change Over Time - A Social Sciences Perspective, Grades K-12
Instructor Dave Carpenter
How have past decisions affected our current landscape? What are we doing today that will limit or expand our choices tomorrow? This class explores the changing landscape using transportation as the common thread. Various curriculum perspectives include Geography, History, Economics and Environmental Science. The Downeaster, Portland Waterfront and the Maine Turnpike will provide firsthand experiences that allow us to see that the world around us really is a learning lab. This course will combine travel with classroom experiences. You will leave with tools and ideas for using your own local landscape to help deliver your lesson plans to your students.
